Explore the borough's history through street names, urban development and personal perspectives at the FHXB Museum.
Two localities, many histories
Today's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg borough was formed in 2001 by merging two boroughs. Their histories began much earlier. Industrialisation, migration, social movements and Berlin's division left different traces. A walk becomes more interesting when you look beyond photographing façades and ask how buildings were used and who lived there. The borough cannot be reduced to nightlife or a single cultural scene. A museum provides context that is not immediately visible in the street.
Visit the FHXB Museum
The FHXB Museum is at Adalbertstraße 95A, 10999 Berlin. The operator lists free admission, with exhibitions open Tuesday to Thursday 12:00–18:00 and Friday to Sunday 10:00–20:00. The current exhibition umbenennen?! explores street names and their social meanings. Check current exhibitions and special dates before travelling. Archive visits require registration; an open museum does not mean every activity is available without arrangements. For a subsequent walk, choose a few places whose history you have just encountered.
